The development of record of science technologies is one of the important parts of the current revolution in science, i.e. transition to the, so-called, "fourth paradigm" in science. Scientific article today assumes involving modern means of displaying data and results of analysis, dynamic and interactive components, as well as compatibility with the contemporary indexing system and tools of dissemination of scientific content. This article opens four-part review which will examine the concepts and results of research and development carried out by the Geophysical Center of Russian Academy of Sciences, based on more than half-century history of publications in geophysics, in particular the results of research under international geophysical projects, and years of experience developing technology of electronic publications.
